Walking with Attitude are one of my favourite clients. The idea behind their business is fantastic, the briefs I get are a huge amount of fun, and they are lovely to work with. I’ve just finished the map and trophy design for their September walking challenge “The Ghost Files”. The route will feature 17 of the UK’s most haunted buildings. eep!

You can check the challenge out HERE.

Tessellating Patterns – Illustrator (BFF)July 15th, 2010
I’ve been doing some research into the implementation of tessellating patterns. I’ve always had a huge soft spot for them – and this has grown after spending 5 years working for a textile artist (the lovely Rosanne Dowland). Illustrator makes the design, creation of implementation of tessellating patterns really easy. Their new pixel grid alignment system means that getting these patterns to display perfectly on web is a walk in the park.
Here’s yesterday’s effort (Click it, go on!):

Family Crest DesignMay 14th, 2010
This was my first full vector project using Illustrator CS5 – this graphic is 100% vector with no PS fix ups so is infinitely scalable (take THAT 300dpi!). You can click the image below for an even bigger view.
I absolutely love CS5. It’s such a step up from CS4. The new “draw inside” (read: FH’s Paste Inside) is process-changing and really does enable a lot more flexibility.
This was my first attempt at a family crest… and I think it turned out pretty well. The surrounding fabric is referenced heavily from the Grand Royal Coat of Arms of France. See {HERE}
Illustration Exp. 2 – Forest ThingMarch 15th, 2010
I’m a big fan of the “Stumble” toolbar. It’s an easy way to find amazing resources, ideas and inspiration. Using it, I have come across an illustration technique that I needed to try – putting little monsters into real photos to get a weird blend of the real and surreal.
I did this yesterday as an experiment for myself and had a lot of fun doing so. It sure beats housework.

Walking with Attitude – Trophy Illustration DesignFebruary 16th, 2010
Walking with Attitude are a fabulous new client that I have recently started working with. As soon as I heard that there was a dog in the office I knew these were my kind of people!
Not only are they fabulous and their company really well run and inspiring, but the projects I get to work on are so much fun.
Visit Walking with Attitude’s impressive site by clicking here.
Their programs help people get motivation to live an active lifestyle. You input the reading from your pedometer (or any other non-walking exercise) into the system and it will “walk” you through some pretty amazing locations (Europe and USA just to name a couple). Being able to exercise with others – and have a support network is inspiring enough even for ME – a person who’s physical exertion in a day can only be attributed to trips to the fridge.
When you complete sections, you get trophies for your cabinet. There’s a new “Go Green” challenge. (Read about it here)
Here are the trophies I created for the “Go Green” challenge.

Illustration Exp. 1 – Luminosity & Colour Masking in PSNovember 29th, 2009
I’ve been playing around in Photoshop to try and push the boundaries. This image was created by first colouring in black and white (inspired by friend – and awesome illo-man Simon Boxer) and then added colours using layers. I’m a colour nut so found myself adding more and more colours until my eyes started twitching and my hands shaking like they do after a multiple-coffee client meeting.
Idea for New Years Resolution # 1. Sketch more!
